When DAS NEUE UNIVERSUM was founded in 1992, the fundamental principle for creating audible art under this name was not and never to find a description for the kind of the work itself except for the description: electronically generated audiovisual art.
In our view, the moment when you start any artistic project under a certain label and make anything certain or definitions about what to do, you will ultimatively be predictable and the way for anything new is blocked, except one day you find out that you would like to do something else. If you, like said before, defined what you were doing before, you then have to explain that you are doing something else and thus need to expand or even
change the concept.
The concept for DAS NEUE UNIVERSUM is based on the fact of an ever-expanding, ever-changing style and/or point of view, so that any definition for what DAS NEUE UNIVERSUM is, except for being a new universe at any time of it´s existence, redundant. It is also possible that nothing changes, for an unknown amount of time. Nothing is sure, and even that is not sure, and so on.
DAS NEUE UNIVERSUM must not be understood. Understanding things and cathegorizing things is a human behaviour, which comes from central brain functions which are not clearly researched in terms of free choice. Until this is not entirely cleared, it is our decision, to make no decision.
kNORT and aGe2.1 met, because their Parents were friends. Must have been about 1987. Somehow, this all started like a little battle about everything. And ofcourse somehow very simliar interests. Two of those were Music and Computers. aGe2.1 had his first ZX81 by the age of 9 years and in 1987 it was a Commodore 128. It could play music, as nowadays’ hords of enthusiastic remixers prove, this music has left a devastation-like impression.
In 1989 there were only very few Commodore compositions by aGe2.1, who at that time was more focused on gaming and leading a small "cracking group". kNORT also owned a Commodore but first started making Music when they both switched to Commodores Amiga in 1989.
The time from 1989 to 1995, when they both discarded the Amiga as a "solution", beared about 500 compositions by aGe2.1 and quite a few by kNORT.
In 1992 they both decided to turn to serious solutions in music making and kNORT bought his first synthesizer, sampler and some Midi-capable Atari ST. It was the hour of birth for "Das Neue Universum".
They started excercising and trying around. Which lead to a series of about 150 songs and clips, among them their first Album, called "Konzentration".
The fact that this project is still alive is pure coincidence and you should take the chance to see them, if only to see them in this special line-up.
